ED Lingo! (Part 1)

Emergency departments have their own style of medical speak – and some of it is specific to a particular ED.

1. If a doctor needs someone to interrogate “it”, he’s not looking for a secret agent – he needs a pacemaker technician to see if a pacemaker is working.


2. A “magnet” in the ED could be the MRI or a pacer magnet (which can quickly reset a pacemaker).

4. If the doctor says he is going to “spin” you. He means he is planning to get a CT scan.
5. Ps. You don’t actually spin.
