Summer Tip 8#:
"I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving." In seasons of overwhelming joy, we bring God a special offering: gratefulness for all He has done. For me -- who was rebellious and unlovable -- the Lord has done great things! "Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul"! -- Psalm 66:16 A time of joy is an opportunity for so many things, not least of all to remind ourselves of what is truly important in life. In Psalm 116, the psalmist leads his audience to recommit to serving God first as His servants. This is even possible because of God's rescue -- He has freed us from what held us back...
Our sin. Our pain. Our suffering. Our enemies. Ourselves. Summer Tip 7#: I am Your servant Lord. Summer Tip 6#: Take up the cup of salvation.
Surely this encourages those who have never trusted Christ as their Savior to trust in Jesus for peace with God and follow Him with their lives. But it is just as poignant a reminder for each of us who are following Christ to rejoice in the reality of our salvation, the wonder of being forgiven and having peace with God. The beauty of our eternal security and heavenly inheritance deserves to be celebrated. And in our earthly joy, our salvation should take center-stage because it is indeed God "indescribable gift". Ephesians 5:1-20 is all about walking. Walk in love. Walk in the light. Walk circumspectly. Psalm 116:9 reminds us that this is precisely the way we should rejoice in our summer seasons of life. Because it is God who keeps us from falling and sets us on our feet (Psalm 40:2) therefore: Summer Tip 5#: Walk before the Lord. This is our great gift and privilege. |
